Good & Bad Composition Photos

Bad Composition

 

This picture has bad composition because the space at the bottom has too much clutter that takes away from the subject of the picture.  The wires and poles create good lines and shape, but the dominance, or focal point, does not stand out. 

 

This picture has bad composition because there is too much open space.  The focal point, the bridge, is barely visible.  The color is also too overpowering. 

 

Good Composition

This picture has good composition because the spacing above and below the bridge leads the viewer to see the focal point clearly.  The bridge creates a nice reflection on the water and you can see the movement in the water.

 

This picture has good composition because the sunlight from above allows the texture of the grass to be seen.  The space shows good economy between the sky and ground.  Also, there is harmony and dominance.
